Celebrating Super 20 together

Celebrating Super 20 together

M. Hansen and G. Smith did most of their international hunting together which included quite a few trips to different parts of Asia. Setting their goals for Super 20 happened somewhere on the way right after they both completed the 12 species for the Capra & Ovis World Slams. Being so close to 20, they figured a combination of multi species hunt on a single trip in several destinations would do the trick. In a two-week period they harvested Balkan (Macedonia), Carpathian (Romania) and Alpine chamois along with Alpine ibex (Switzerland) which earned them the Super 20. We are just wondering what these two gentlemen’s next...

Two Dagestan Tur in three days

Two Dagestan Tur in three days

It is always fun to hunt with J. Shockey. No doubt, he has a good sense of humor and he surely knows how to and when to use it. There is no need to tell you how deadly he is with his muzzleloader. But let us tell you, he is even deadlier with a rifle even though he uses it rarely. In July Jim and his cameraman Matthew, very nice young fellow from N.Z, showed up at the Baku airport. Whatever normal challenges on a hunt takes place, there are twice as many with a camera crew. But shooting a 40 inch Dagestan Tur with Jim did not take that long. Because there was no way to get within the Muzzloader range for this huge animal, Jim took him w...

In pursuit of Capra Super 40

In pursuit of Capra Super 40

M. Boyacioglu of Turkey set his goal for Capra Super 40 long time ago when one of his hunting buddies had already collected a mere 21 species of Capra. Murat had worked his way up to 18 species when he decided to book a hunt for two Tur species in Russia along with Caucassian chamois. Within a week time his count was up to 21 species when he included both Kuban Tur and the Mid Caucasian Tur. With the number of  hunts he already booked, it seems to us Murat will be celebrating his Super 30 by this time next year.

WHOEVER SAYS “I DON’T MISS” IS EITHER LYING OR ISN’T HUNTING

WHOEVER SAYS “I DON’T MISS” IS EITHER LYING OR ISN’T HUNTING

As any honest shooter will admit, we’ve all screwed it up more than once. But I never saw A. Beck of Hungary miss any game animal even under very difficult hunting conditions and we have hunted together quite a few times. The last time Antal hunted with Caprinae was in Tajikistan for Marco Polo and Mid Asian ibex. He punched two holes in the ram while it was running at almost full trot at about 600 yards. He made the same kind of shot at his ibex smoothly. I was impressed by his shooting ability once more.

Success in the field is most often a product of effective training on the range. Antal lives in a ranch in his home town in Hun...

Mike did it again

Mike did it again

Mike had booked this hunt a few years ahead of time. Each time we got to see each other at the shows he reminded us he wanted a monster ibex. He had hunted with us once before and collected the new #1 Blandford urial. So, we knew his expectations were going to be bigger than ever. The area we chose for him was a good one. Although the animals were showing some indications of rut it was almost finished in this area. So we didn’t see too many billies. There was one animal we saw every day, of which we could have shot at anytime. This Ibex would have made a darn good trophy on anyone’s wall but we kept passing in hopes of finding something...

Konya sheep

Konya sheep

Although it was close to extinction not too long ago, Konya sheep nowadays has become Turkey’s most iconic game animal along with Bezoar. Once wide spread across the country, there were only 40 specimens left in their last habitat back in early 60s when the government passed a new law to take them under protection. Works which began by the end of 60s produced some impresive results and the animals multiplied to some 2000 by the beginning of new Milenium. Further plans were made to reintroduce some animals into their previous homeland. Thanks to Game Departments relentless effords, today we are able to hunt these magnificent animals in f...

A slam dunk for a hunting legend

A slam dunk for a hunting legend

H. Cuellar is a hunting legend who was presented with the Weatherby award nearly 30 years ago. Since then he has won all the major SCI awards and was given a bunch of other awards by difirent hunting and conservation organizations. Some argue that he is one of the greatest hunters of our modern times if the not grandest. We could not agree more with that as we had the privilidge to arrange a few hunts for him. At the age of 80 he still chase mountain game around the world. This time it was an easy one for Hector. He collected this outstanding Konya sheep on the second day into the hunt.

The New World Record Blanford Urial

The New World Record Blanford Urial

Every hunter enjoys big trophies but not all of them are willing to make the special effort to get one. M. Adams is certainly one of those who goes to great lenghts. He sets his goal high and sticks to it. We often see him pass on good trophies in order to harvest the best. It may not work that way all the time but certainly worked out good on this occasion. He hunted for Blandford urial and Sind ibex in Pakistan in early January. Once more his persistence and hard work paid off on the third day and he shot a 34” ram that outscored the current world record by 3 points after the drying time was over. His Sind ibex shot on the first hun...

Who has more Marco Polo

Who has more Marco Polo

The name of S. Golabchi is synonymous with Marco Polo (see hunting Marco Polo Argali in Kyrgyzstan and also hunting Marco Polo Argali in Tajikistan) in the hunting world. Not only in quantity but also in quality as he has 7 or 8 rams over 60 inches. He must have hunted all but a few creatures that exist on the face of the earth. Konya sheep was one of the few exceptions that did not adorn his trophy room since the species was not available to trophy hunters for decades. Soudy did not waste any time to book the hunt when the Turkish Game Department issued the first tags for this highly sought after trophy animal. We only wish that like...

The New SCI World Record Bezoar Ibex

The New SCI World Record Bezoar Ibex

It took Henry years to make a final decision to hunt Bezoar in Turkey although we had talked about this many times at shows over the years. He finally took a step to make his long waited dream come true. He called us asking for an available permit when he was on his way to Spain for another ibex hunt. Early December found Henry in Turkey along with miserable weather. Still the first hunting day was good enough to spot some game and the monarch of the mountain showed himself to Henry for the first time. The following days of the hunt brought nothing but worse weather conditions. Seeing the monstrous ibex only once in four days had haunte...

World Record Hybrid Bezoar Ibex

World Record Hybrid Bezoar Ibex

No doubt D. Campbell is a well known character in the hunting world with a wealth of knowledge and a lot of experience. He has of course completed countless hunts around the world. However, we’re not sure if he’s had an easier hunt with such a successful result than the Bezoar Hybrid ibex he took with Caprinae. This was the first lag of a 6 animal & 3 destination trip that ended within a few hours on the first hunting day. The result was an awesome looking critter with 49 inch horns that flared out like a Marco Polo ram. Dennis’s luck continued as he collected all six animals within the following few days, including Mid Eastern red deer,...
