As any honest shooter will admit, we’ve all screwed it up more than once. But I never saw A. Beck of Hungary miss any game animal even under very difficult hunting conditions and we have hunted together quite a few times. The last time Antal hunted with Caprinae was in Tajikistan for Marco Polo and Mid Asian ibex. He punched two holes in the ram while it was running at almost full trot at about 600 yards. He made the same kind of shot at his ibex smoothly. I was impressed by his shooting ability once more.
Success in the field is most often a product of effective training on the range. Antal lives in a ranch in his home town in Hungary and shoots thousands of handload rounds throughout the year. This is a guy who obtained a guiding license in Alaska to be able to hunt on his own. He lives to hunt. By the way Antal’s Marco Polo ram turned out to be just the way he wished it to be. A 60 incher.
